Pick a Winner!

Family and Friends (mostly Krista's mom) living a far,

Just because we live in Kentuckiana does not mean we have the "inside secret track" on who is going to win Derby. Believe me, if I knew I would have a lot more $$ in the bank! I will say that the local newspapers have Colonel John as the favorite (as of now), but the favorite never wins anyway. Here is a link to the Courier Journal and the official Kentucky Derby website which lists all the contenders and their stats. I'm partial to Big Truck and Eight Belles, but what the heck do I know?? Remember if you win, you heard it here first :)

Balloon Race Over The Riggs'

As part of the pre-Derby festivities, we had a hot air balloon race last Friday followed by the Great Balloon Glow. Friday morning Daisy starting barking like a mad woman despite her barking collar and ran straight into the house. She could not be convinced that the balloons were friendly and stayed in the house for the rest of the morning. I can really appreciate the dog's ability to recognize what is "normal" and what is not. By the time I realized what was going on some of the balloons had already past, but I snapped what I could.
The first balloon (my favorite)

Growing

16 weeks, 2 days

The belly is growing! It's really weird. It was like overnight this belly appeared. Now I know it is very small, and my dear friend Heidi says that in 20 weeks I will look back at myself and consider this hot bod "supermodel quality", but it seems huge to me :) Not to be left behind many other body parts are keeping up as well including my face, chin, arms, and ankles. I don't fit in my regular clothes anymore, but I'm still a little too small for maternity clothes. I wear them anyway. How can anything that feels so good be wrong? 2 more weeks until we find out what sex the Riggatoni is. Any guesses?

A Nice Surprise Package

Yesterday after a long day of work we came home to find a package on our door step. Inside were maternity shirts for mommy, a t-shirt for daddy and a book and rubber ducky for baby! Thanks Grandma and Grandpa Riggs! One squeak from the ducky and Daisy was in love. She has her eye on that duck so presently, he is in protective custody.

Mom and Baby gifts

T-shirt for Dad

Ahhh. It won't be long before that's a rocking chair he's sitting in...and that beer will be replaced with diapers and baby butt cream!! Thanks again!!!!

15 weeks!

Hurray! Tomorrow I will be 15 weeks pregnant. I'm noticing that I'm juuuust starting to look like I just might be pregnant and not just chubby! I thought I would post a picture of me today....

15 weeks
I considered cropping out my face since I look about as tired as I feel post flu. I didn't feel like sparing you though and my "photographer" didn't seem to concerned with the lighting. Shockingly, I've already gained 9 pounds! Thankfully, I'm not eating like a mad woman anymore so that has slowed down. I was thankful not to be super sick in the first trimester, but a little might have been good to keep away those pesky pounds.

Why my floors never get cleaned

I'm feeling a little better today so I thought I would try to sweep up all the grass clippings that have made their way into the house (via Daisy). As you will see, sometimes it isn't worth the effort. Please don't mind Dan's sock in the middle of the floor. Daisy is a big fan of Dan's stinky feet and socks. She often steals his socks out of the laundry room.

Flu shot anyone?

I may have just learned my lesson with the flu shot. I have never gotten a flu shot and have never gotten the flu. It was just last week that I was bragging about this all over town. I've always used the theory of "herd immunity" where everyone else gets the flu shot and can't get sick enough to pass it to me. I tell everyone to get the flu shot while I secretly avoid those needles! It makes sense in my head at least.

I'm so thankful for Tylenol right now. I'm feeling a little better, but Dan fell asleep pretty early tonight (early for him, like before it got dark out) so I'm worried he is coming down with it too. Hopefully, he is just exhausted from a long day at work, a grueling exam and taking care of a cranky, whinny, and coughing preggo.

On another note, we had turkey in our yard this morning! Poor Daisy had to go outside for her 4 am "nature call" and they scared it right out of her!!!

The Bearded Lady

With spring fast approaching I am thinking about things such as spring cleaning. The gutters, carpets, windows, organizing the garage and the worst job ever.....(dum dum dum duuuuum)..giving Daisy a fur cut. She doesn't shed like a normal dog. Instead her fur comes out in clumps. The longer her hair, the bigger the clumps and the more menacing her dog hair fur bunnies become. However, one knows that when you have a pyscho hairy dog you do the one thing you can. Make an appointment with the vet to drug her and shave her while she's out of it. Stay tuned.
Also when she drinks she get her beard all wet and then drips water all over the house. Imagine my horror when I wake up to find that an unnamed person leaves the bathroom door open and the toilet seat up all night (now you understand the carpet shampooing). Are you too looking for long lustrous hair? Well Daisy is about to share her secret. An apple a day!
