Drool is Dangerous!!

Emma has been a droolin' fool lately soaking through a bib per hour at times.  It seems I am constantly picking her up with her outfit soaked GRRRR.  This make mommy very cranky, very very cranky.  No one can keep up with that amount of drool!  Thursday night while iced in, I blended oats, and we gave her an oatmeal bath which helped a lot!  How can one baby make so much drool!  I don't see or feel any teeth so what's up with that??

The drool rash started under her chin....

then spread to the creases of her fat rolls...

Ouch!

then it spread to her back and legs..
Besides a runny nose, cough and low grade fever (2nd daycare bug) Emma and her rash are doing well!  We like the Aveeno lotion.  Thanks Auntie Kiley for the suggestion.

Winter Storm 2009

This morning we woke up to lots of ICE and no power!  Thankfully, we got our heat back after a couple of hours but there are still 200,000 still without power.  The temp won't get above freezing for a couple more days so fingers crossed for day 3 of no work/school!  :-9

no grilling today!
...and then it started snowing

Dan attempted to clean off the car...
..until the scraper broke
he decided to throw an ice-ball at the window
(note the snowball in the upper right of the pic!)

Then Daisy made yellow snow, it's even too cold for Daisy to pee in the grass
(at least she made in down the steps) :)

Our little fishy..

We always start with a full tub but the little fish splashes it all out!

cAmEra sHy??

Emma is a smiling laughing chatty baby, but we can't always capture her "real" personality with the camera. It seems that our girl is camera shy. In fact, as soon as she sees the camera she just stares at it with a blank face. Maybe she is looking for the flash? In this video I propped the camera on a pillow so she would ignore it, but if you watch closely you can see she never forgets it is there and keeps glancing at it. She is quite the story teller once she gets going....

How time flies

Exactly one year ago today we learned we were pregnant!  I can't believe how fast the year has gone by!  We spent 7 months fantasizing about how great parenthood would be, and I can honestly say it has been better than I imagined!  Emma is the BEST!

Working Mom Woes

Warning!  Reader beware.  This blog entry is a just a big old whine!  I have to admit when I was home with Emma I couldn't wait to get back to work where I could finish school, visit with my friends, have a reason to shower and have a little "me" time (even if it was 5 minutes in the ladies room).  Now that I'm back to work, I'm loving my new job, but I miss Emma all day.  I'm always thinking about how much of her bottle she drank, what little fun activities she doing, if she napped and even if she pooped (yep you read that right).  I pick her up from daycare and I have just a few hours to play with her, bathe her, feed her and then it is bed time.  In short, I feel like I'm missing huge chunks of her tiny life now.  On top of that how and when does one do common tasks like cook and clean?  Even with Dan and I working at top speed we can barely get it all done!  I have an enormous amount of respect for all moms&dads now and wonder how you can "do it all."  I thought I was soooo "busy" before baby and I now for the life of me I can't even remember what was keeping me so busy then. Sheesh...  P.S. Mom I love you!!

5 Months Old!

Today our girl is 5 months old!  It seems like yesterday we brought Emma home.  We are so lucky to be Emma's parents, we think she is a very special girl!  At the ripe old age of 5 months Emma has already made crafts including a foil sculpture and glitter mittens.  Yesterday she played with faux snow in the sensory pit at daycare and she has started to develop at rapid speed.  She has embarked on tasting new "dishes" as we start giving her baby food.  She has started to get the hang of it.  She makes the cutest "hmmmmmmmmm" noise after each bite and lets us know if we are shoveling it in fast enough.  Our little piggy currently weighs 16 pounds, 5 oz.

Emma's favorite things at 5 months:
1.  Being held, always.  Everyone is shocked at how content she it being held.
2.  Eating!  Fav: sweet potatoes, pears and peaches
3.  Jumperoo!  She looks like a master DJ playing with all the gadgets
4.  Bath time.  It used to be serious business, but now she likes to kick her feet non-stop!
5.  Daisy!

Emma's dislikes:
1.  Being put down
2.  Bubble gum flavored antibiotic inspired projectile vomiting
3.  carrots

Major accomplishment:  Sleeping in her own bed.. in her own room.. all night!

Feeling hot, hot, hot!!!

Last night Emma spiked a fever and started acting very unhappy.  Her temp was up to 100.4 by 6am and we were all at her pediatrician at 9am.  Poor baby has double ear infections and a nasty lingering cold.  Thankfully, her RSV test was negative and her lungs are clear.  So it seems we are experiencing Emma's first sickness which we are treating with antibiotics :(  As always our girl got weighed and Emma is up to 15 pounds, 15 oz! Wowza.

New School, new food for thought...

UofL's Early Learning Center

It seems we are all starting to recover from our holiday colds finally so I thought I would post an update! Emma has gone to "fancy" daycare for 2 days now. I think it is a good environment for her, although she comes home exhausted. Yesterday she made a "foil sculpture" also known as "give a baby a sheet of foil and see what happens." Of course, It IS the best foil sculpture out of the whole class :)  A child's sorting box served as inspiration for the architect who designed the building (note the different shaped windows).  One of the best features is that the windows are floor level so the kids can see out even if they are barely walking.

In other news, Emma has been busy trying different foods!  I have to admit it is a lot of fun watching her react to new flavors!  So far she has had rice cereal, bananas, peaches, carrots and pears.  Her favorite so far seems to be the pears.  Below is a picture of her eye-balling her carrots.

All cleaned up and ready for bath time!
Of course we have to see a little Daisy too! (she is such a nut!)

These two melt my heart!

sick baby

Poor Emma has caught the cold that both Dan and I had last week and are still fighting.  She has a bad cough and a NEVER ending runny nose.  She missed her first day at fancy daycare today.  Hopefully she will make it there this week, but I have my doubts :(
